FIELD: process engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, particularly, to continuous metal casting. Claimed process comprises determination of the position of soft reduction from melt meniscus in crucible in real time, billet reduction by roller sections in calculated limits with positioning of roller sections with hydraulic cylinders. Design position of the first zone of soft reduction is the billet cross-section whereat the melt design pressure in two-phase zone at the billet central axis at zero reduction equals that of dissolved gasses of 0 N/m² to 500 N/m². Reduction magnitude is selected proceeding from the conditions whereat hydrodynamic melt pressure in the soft reduction zone boundaries including cross-section corresponding to second boundary of soft reduction zone and including 18-20% of liquid phase, above said range of magnitudes.

EFFECT: higher accuracy of determination of the position of soft reduction zone front boundary and reduction magnitude.
