FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy. Proposed method comprises feeding of metal from steel teeming ladle into pony ladle and, further, into die, drawing the billet from said die and cooling it in secondary cooling zone in solid-liquid state with soft squeezing by roll knobbing. Soft squeezing at section of relative content of liquid phase fL in two-phase zone at billet center in the range 0.1≤fL≤0.5 is performed at the rate of 1.26-1.65 mm/min. Soft squeezing at section of relative content of liquid phase fL in two-phase zone at billet center in the range 0.5≤fL≤0.9 is performed at the rate of 0.5-1.25 mm/min.
EFFECT: higher quality of billets.
