FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method for obtaining of a commercial mineral filler includes wet milling of calcium carbonate-containing material mixed with water and at least one dispersing agent at a temperature of 60°C to 150°C. The moisture content of the mixture is from 15.0 to 50.0 wt % based on the total weight of the said mixture. The amount of the dispersing agent is in the range of 0.01 to 10.0 wt % based on the total dry weight of the calcium carbonate-containing material. The dispersing agent is selected from the group consisting of styrene-maleic anhydride copolymers and styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer derivatives. These derivatives are selected from copolymers of styrene-maleic anhydride containing partially or fully hydrolyzed units of maleic anhydride. The dispersing agent has a ratio of styrene monomer units to maleic anhydride units C:MA of 1:2 to 5:1 and a molecular weight Mw of 500 to 40,000 g/mol. Next, drying of the obtained wet-ground mineral filler is carried out to obtain a dried mineral filler having a moisture content less than or equal to 1.0 wt % based on the total weight of the dried mineral filler. The dried mineral filler is treated with a hydrophobizing agent to produce a surface modified product.
EFFECT: invention allows to increase the solids content in the grinding process, to obtain a mineral filler with a relatively low water absorption capacity.
