FIELD: measurement equipment.
SUBSTANCE: microwave method to determine wood density includes probing of a wood sample with electromagnet waves. Then a pair of orthogonally polarised waves is received, speeds of these waves propagation are calculated as they travel via the wood sample, the controlled wood sample is placed into electric field. Then a polarised wave arising due to artificial anisotropy is received, as it propagates in parallel to power lines of the probing wave, this wave refraction index variation is calculated as it travels via the material sample, and wood ρ density is determined according to the formula ρ=(3Kλ2M-3M)/(AKλ2+2A), where M - molecular weight of the substance; λ - probing wave length; A=4πNα, where N - Avogadro number; α - polarizability of substance molecules; K=υpar 2B2E4/(υpar-υperp)2, where B - coefficient that depends on controlled medium property, E - electric field intensity, υpar and υper - speeds of propagation of waves polarized in parallel and perpendicular to power lines of the probing wave accordingly.
EFFECT: simplified procedure to determine substance density.
