FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of producing barium formate is carried out by reacting crystalline barium carbonate with formic acid. The method includes boiling off the reaction mass, separating the end product, purifying and drying said product, wherein barium carbonate is added to 10-12% aqueous formic acid solution in portions at a rate of 10-50 g/min with an interval of 10-30 min between each portion at 25-40°C, wherein the formic acid is used in 10-20% excess of the stoichiometric amount, followed by cooling while stirring, filtering out the precipitated end product, washing with saturated aqueous barium formate solution which is purified in advance, pressing and drying at 80-90°C.
EFFECT: obtaining highly pure barium formate and an advanced method for production thereof.
