FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: method involves collecting past medical history and performing echocardiography in patients aged 18 years and older and staying in hospital. That takes into consideration: a schedule; existence of a pulmonary diseases; existence of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI); right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP) >36 mm Hg according to EchoCG findings; existence of a complex of symptoms of the pulmonary heart; existence of right auricular (RA) dilatation; existence of obesity; existence of pericardial fluid caused other than an infectious process; existence of right ventricular (RV) dilatation; left ventricular post-infarction cardiosclerosis (PICS). The derived data are used to assess a probability of the lethal outcome in the patients developing PATE by an original regression equation. If the calculated value is >0.55, the high probability of the lethal outcome in the patient is stated.
EFFECT: method enables specifying a group of patients in need of the most extensive possible integrated preventive activities with respect to pulmonary artery thromboembolia to avoid the lethal outcome if this disease develops.
