SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to an imaging device which performs a plurality of capturing operations in order to obtain a plurality of fragments of image data to be used to make up an image, and to a method of controlling said device. The disclosed imaging devices comprise an imaging unit, an acquiring unit, a determining unit, wherein the imaging unit is configured to obtain a plurality of image data for image combination processing by performing a plurality of capturing operations, which include a capturing operation with light emission, performed by forcing a light-emitting device to emit light, and a capturing operation without light emission, performed without forcing a light-emitting device to emit light, and the determining unit is configured to determine exposure control values for the capturing operation with light emission and the capturing operation without light emission based on information obtained by the acquiring unit with respect to brightness of an object from preliminary emission of light performed by the light-emitting device.
EFFECT: obtaining a preferable composite image by combining image data obtained by performing a capturing operation by forcing a light-emitting device to emit light and image data obtained by performing a capturing operation without forcing a light-emitting device to emit light.
