FIELD: biotechnology.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises administering to inbred heterosexual 18-21-day-old mice of immunodeficient line SCID weighing 12-14 g of a control group and a test group in a predetermined scheme of suspension of the antiviral drug under study. The mice are infected intranasally with a strain of smallpox virus India-3a at a dose of 4.5-5.5 lg PFU. The virus is incubated in mice body, and the concentration of virus in the lungs of animals is determined with subsequent calculation of performance indicators of the concentration reduction of virus in the lungs, on the magnitude of which the antiviral activity of the drug is determined, and to assess the medical and preventive action of the drug under study it is administered to animals one day before the infecting, the day of infecting, and daily during the incubation time of the virus.

EFFECT: invention enables to provide more adequate assessment of activity of emergency and preventive drugs against smallpox, intended for people with the suppressed function of immune system.
