FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: EEG signal is registered and continuous wavelet transform is realised. Instantaneous and integral distributions of wavelet spectrum energy by time scales, which correspond to frequency ranges 5-9 Hz for spindle-shaped patterns and 9-16 Hz for sleep spindles, are determined. At each time moment the total value of wavelet spectrum is determined; phases of system behaviour are determined on the basis of instantaneous distributions of wavelet spectrum in such a way that in one of the phases major part of wavelet spectrum energy falls at selected ranges of time scales. Instantaneous distributions of wavelet spectrum energies are averaged by time interval in range 1-1.5 s, threshold values of energy are specified and spindle-shaped patterns are determined by values of wavelet spectrum energy falling at ranges 5-9 Hz and 9-16 Hz.

EFFECT: method makes it possible to increase reliability of automatic identification of sleep spindles and other spindle-shaped patterns, which is achieved due to application of method of wavelet transform and determination of threshold values of wavelet spectrum energy.
