FIELD: measurement equipment.

SUBSTANCE: gyrocompass mode is switched on for initial bringing of the main axis of a course gyroscope into a meridian plane in northern or southern directions. After bringing the main axis of the course gyroscope into the meridian plane and fixation of the azimuth value from the course angle sensor, they conduct accelerated rotation of the course gyroscope in the azimuth by the angle p and start the gyrocompass mode for bringing in the initial direction. After this they determine the position, in which the bringing speed is equal to zero, and true azimuth value is determined according to the expression: A a z = A 1 + A 2 + π 2 at A1>A2 or A a z = A 1 + A 2 π 2 at A1<A2, where A1 - azimuth value after the first bringing of the main axis of the course gyroscope into the meridian plane, A2 - value of the course angle, at which the bringing speed in the position opposite to the first azimuth value is equal to zero.

EFFECT: increased accuracy, simplified realisation and increased reliability.
