A method of extracting a GM1 ganglioside includes preparing non-bovine and non-porcine tissues comprising GM1 producing cells; isolating from said tissues the GM1 ganglioside producing cells; expanding said GM1 producing cells in culture under suitable conditions to facilitate expansion of said cells; expressing GM1 ganglioside in the culture under suitable conditions; isolating said GM1 ganglioside from said culture, which can be used to treat Parkinson's disease and other neurological diseases.
EFFECT: obtaining a ganglioside using the present method enables to avoid prion diseases during further use thereof.
