FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to cellular biology and biotechnology, in particular to the use of hUTC cells, a method of reducing and a kit for reducing the production of one or more pro-inflammatory mediators TNF-α, RANTES, IL-1β and combinations thereof in a patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Method comprises administering an effective amount of isolated cells derived from human post-natal umbilical cord tissue, essentially free of blood, capable of self-renewal and propagation in culture, not producing CD117 and CD45 and not expressing hTERT or telomerase.
EFFECT: invention enables to reduce production TNF-α, RANTES, IL-1β and combinations thereof in a patient with COPD.
