FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: being supplied from alternating-current network directly or through current limiter the device comprises an operating capacitor charged through current-limiting element and connected through switching element in parallel to primary winding of pulse transformer, which secondary winding is connected in series to a gas-discharge lamp directly or through current limiter to the network. A shunting capacitor is connected to the network through current limiter. There is also additional in-series current limiter and additional primary winding of pulse transformer, which beginning is coupled to the end of primary winding. The switching element consists of two in-series connected keys, which common point is coupled through current limiter to the end of additional winding of the pulse transformer. The first key coupled to beginning of primary winding of the pulse transformer shall be switched in 0.1-10 mcs upon switching of the second key coupled to the operating capacitor and current-limiting element. A saturable reactor may be used as the first key.

EFFECT: reduced weight and dimensions of the device and improvement of its operating reliability.
