FIELD: physics, optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in light engineering and optics when making illumination devices. The composition is intended as binder or for connecting optical elements and contains a silicate, alkyl silicate and/or alkyl polysiloxane as binding material and nanoparticles with average diameter of 100 nm or less in amount of 15-75% of the volume of the composition. The composition has a first refraction index (n1) of at least 1.65 for light with a first wavelength of 350-500 nm and a second refraction index (n2) of 1.60-2.2 for light with a second wavelength of 550-800 nm. The difference between (n1) and (n2) is at least equal to 0.03. The nanoparticles are selected from a group consisting of TiO2, ZrO2, Y2O3, ZrO2, stabilised with Y2O3, HfO2, Ta2O5, Nb2O5, TeO2, BaTiO3 and SiC. The illumination device (1) comprises a semiconductor lamellar structure (5), a ceramic element (7) and a connecting region (8) containing said composition.
