SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an accelerator for acceleration and collision of two charged particle beams. The disclosed device comprises a potential field apparatus for generating an electrostatic potential field which is such that two beams of the charged particles are accelerated or decelerated by the electrostatic field, a reaction zone in which the collision of the two charged particle beams takes place, wherein the invention also provides a first acceleration region for the first beam in the potential field, which is directed towards the reaction zone, as well as second acceleration region for the second beam in the potential field, wherein the second acceleration region is directed towards the reaction zone. The reaction zone is arranged with respect to the potential field and to the first and second acceleration regions such that the particles of the two beams can be accelerated towards the reaction zone along the first acceleration region and the second acceleration region and, after interaction in the reaction zone and passage through the reaction zone, are decelerated again in the potential field.
EFFECT: high energy-efficiency of the accelerator due to that the energy used by the potential field apparatus for accelerating the two beams towards the reaction zone can be recovered at least partially by the deceleration.
