FIELD: veterinary medicine.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises sampling blood from the jugular vein, the study of content of total cholesterol and the albumin-globulin coefficient index, and the judgment on the functional state of the ovaries in first-calf heifers. In case of the values of total cholesterol of 5.2-7.8 mmol/l, and the albumin-globulin coefficient index in the range of 1.0-1.8 the total protein, potassium and magnesium content is additionally studied. Upon reaching the values of total protein content of 65.6 g/l, the potassium concentration of 4.2-4.8 mmol/l and magnesium of 1.0-1.2 mmol/l the actively functioning ovaries with the possibility of further fertilization are diagnosed. When the values of these indices do not reach the above optimum values of total protein, potassium and magnesium, the conclusion is made on reduction of functional activity of the ovaries with the defective cycles in first-calf heifers.

EFFECT: method enables available under the conditions of livestock entities and farms based on a study in blood serum of total protein, albumin-globulin coefficient, total cholesterol, potassium and magnesium to determine more accurately the functional state of the ovaries and the conditions for the formation of full oestrous cycles in young cows during first lactation.
