SUBSTANCE: invention relates to vehicle navigation systems and methods. A method of determining a route includes determining a route to a destination, determining the type of connection of a wireless device to a server and assigning a tolerance in accordance with the type of connection. The tolerance is used to determine if the vehicle is off-route. The tolerance is increased or decreased inversely proportion according to the speed of the connection type. The tolerance is used to determine points defining the route, such that the roads comprising the route are within a bounded area. The bounded area may be defined in conjunction with a plurality of lines connecting successive points along the route. The method includes transmitting the determined points to a vehicle computer system connected to a server.

EFFECT: providing a more accurate route with a large number of route points and large amount of data and with higher probability of determining deviation from the route.
