SUBSTANCE: illustrative method of gathering data includes determining that a vehicle movement characteristic has changed beyond an expected parameter. The method also includes recording GPS coordinates of the vehicle and ceasing recording of the GPS coordinates of the vehicle when the vehicle movement characteristic resumes the expected parameter. Finally, the method includes determining and storing a traffic control function associated with at least one set of the GPS coordinates, if the recorded GPS coordinates of the vehicle correspond to the previously recorded GPS coordinates.

EFFECT: obtaining efficient and easily customisable strategies of using maps and map data in a vehicle navigation system while enabling selective data provision.
