FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: apparatus for producing high-purity gallium trichloride includes a reactor 1, a fractionation column 14 with a heating jacket 21, an "inert breathing" unit 17, a station for unloading and packing the finished product 20. The reactor has a heating jacket 6 with a heat carrier inlet 7 and outlet 8, inlets with taps 2, 4 and siphons 3, 5 for feeding gallium metal and chlorine gas in a medium of an inert gas. The reactor is provided with a port 10 for generating a vacuum, connected with a channel 11 for generating a vacuum, which is provided with taps and is situated outside the reactor. The channel 11 for generating a vacuum is connected by channel-connector 12 to a channel for feeding inert gas 9 into the middle part thereof at portions thereof between the taps. The method of producing gallium trichloride includes reacting chlorine gas with molten gallium metal, fractionating the obtained reaction mass while heating, unloading and packing the finished product. Before feeding into the reaction zone, the gallium metal is heated to 210°C. The gallium is fed into the reaction zone under the effect of a vacuum. The fractionation zone is heated to maintain temperature in the range of 95 to 110°C. Spraying is carried out by returning a portion of the finished product under the given conditions.
EFFECT: safer process, preventing overheating of the product and faster production.
