SUBSTANCE: method includes determining an internal prediction mode for a block of video data included in a coded unit of video data and positioned below a top row of top neighbouring blocks in the coded unit, wherein determination of the internal prediction mode is based on the most probable internal prediction mode, based on an internal prediction mode from other blocks in the coded unit, but not based on the internal prediction mode from top row blocks in the coded unit, coding the block based on the determined internal prediction mode.
EFFECT: eliminating redundancy in a video sequence by limiting the amount of prediction information from neighbouring blocks which is buffered during coding.
