FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: method of coding video data is disclosed. The method includes the step of determining context information for one or more syntax elements associated with a video data block, wherein the said block is included in a video data coding unit (CU). The video data define a quadtree structure and the coding unit is a node of the quadtree structure. The determination of context information comprises determining the context information based on the depth in the quadtree structure. Further, the method comprises entropy coding of one or more syntax elements using the determined context information.
EFFECT: high coding and decoding efficiency due to that entropy coding or decoding is performed using the context information determined based on the depth in the quadtree structure.
