FIELD: video technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the encoding and decoding of video data and, in particular, to a method and system for encoding video using a time prediction motion vector based on sub-blocks. A method for time prediction of the motion vector based on a sub-block is proposed. The computing device receives a bit stream of video, including data associated with a set of encoded images. When decoding the current image in the video bitstream, the computing device selects, in accordance with the syntax elements signaled in the video bitstream, one reference image as a combined image of the current image and determines the movement shift between the combined image and the current image from the movement information of spatially adjacent blocks of the current code block (CU) in accordance with a fixed order. The computing device then divides the current CU into a set of sub-CUs, obtains a time predictor of the motion vector for each sub-CU from the motion shift and block motion information in the combined image, which corresponds to the respective sub-block of the current image, and decodes the current CU in accordance with the time predictors of the motion vector.

EFFECT: ensuring the efficiency of encoding/decoding video data, while maintaining the image quality of decoded video data.
