SUBSTANCE: video coding method comprises: determining, based on the dimensional characteristic of the prediction unit (PU) in an image data B-slice, less than the threshold value, whether the PU is limited by a unidirectional inter-prediction; creating a list of candidates for merging for said PU; determining the selected candidate for merging from the list of candidates for merging, wherein the selected candidate for merging is a bidirectional candidate for merging. Two different reference blocks are associated with the movement information set by the selected candidate for merging; and based on the PU limited by a unidirectional inter-prediction, transforming the selected candidate for merging, which is a bidirectional candidate for merging, into a unidirectional candidate for merging, by means of preservation the list 0 movement vector of the selected candidate for merging and ignoring the list 1 movement vector of the selected candidate for merging so that the predicted video block for said PU is formed on the basis of no more than one of two different reference blocks associated with the movement information set by the selected candidate for merging.
EFFECT: efficient inter-prediction in video coding.
