FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: ultrasonic scanning of the abdominal cavity aims at measuring abscess dimensions and determining its volume by formula entered into an ultrasonic scanner processor. That is followed by ultrasonically controlled maximum evacuation of the pus abscess and determination of its volume. The calculated and evacuated volumes are compared. If the evacuated volume is more than the calculated one, the presence of purulo-liquid pockets and leaks is stated. If the evacuated volume is less than the calculated one, the presence of invisible new growths in the abscess is stated.
EFFECT: method makes it possible to detect ultrasonically invisible leaks, sequestra, foreign matters, haematomas in the limited purulo-liquid clots of the abdominal and retroperitoneal spaces.
