FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: claimed process comprises sand sampling, separation of clay particles, placing the sand samples on contrast smooth substrate, shooting via the microscope, optical analysis of the image by superposition of grid and calculation of the number of cells including the fractal outline and plotting the logarithmic graph defining the fractal dimension Dd. Image analysis is executed by the image computer processing at calculation of occupied cells number at the sand grain boundary. Defined is the dependence of said number of occupied cells N from the cell side on the cell size in dual logarithmic coordinates. Logarithmic dependence line graph is plotted by lnN of lnh to define the fractal dimension Dd by the tangent of inclination angle of the line obtained by plotting of the logarithmic dependence Dd = lnN/lnh.
EFFECT: higher validity of evaluation.
