FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to processing of ingots from alloys, particularly, to production of surface coating on ingot of alloy that reduces the thermal cracking. Glass web is placed directly on the portion of said ingot. Glass particles are applied on at least the portion of said glass web and heated to get aforesaid surface coating of the ingot. The billet can contain the material selected from the group consisting of nickel-base alloy, nickel-based super alloy, nickel-iron-based alloy, titanium-based alloy, titanium-nickel-based alloy and cobalt-based alloy. After heating of said glass materials the is applied by at least one of the die, female die and roller to the billet of alloy to deform said billet. Note here that at least one of the die, female die and roller contacts with the surface coating of said billet. A cylindrical billet of the alloy can be used as the billet. It is heated to over 1000°F (538°C) and, then, rolled in the bulk ply of glass material with application of glass particles on the cylindrical billet surface. Said billet and applied glass particles are heated at the temperature of 1000°F (538°C) to get the surface coating on said billet.
EFFECT: decreased thermal cracking at metal forming.
