SUBSTANCE: invention relates to video surveillance systems, particularly to grouping cameras in a large system for surveillance, rendering and viewing video information streams from cameras. Disclosed is grouping of a plurality of cameras linked to a surveillance system into a plurality of groups, selecting at least one group from the plurality of groups, displaying video information streams associated with the given number of cameras in the selected group, and viewing the video information streams associated with all cameras in the selected group. The grouping of the plurality of cameras includes grouping the name of each camera into a corresponding one of a plurality of folders, each of the folders corresponding to a geographic location in the surveillance region, and displaying video information streams associated with the given number of cameras in the selected group includes displaying video information streams in an N×M matrix of viewing sub-windows.

EFFECT: determining groups of cameras which include a very large number of cameras to enable simultaneous display thereof on a display, and enabling viewing of information streams of a selected group by selecting the next and previous sets for searching the selected group.
