FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method includes modifying a chitosan-containing substance at room temperature in iodine-containing vapour for more than 5 hours until the required physical and chemical properties of chitosan iodo-derivatives are obtained, and the chitosan-containing substance used is a film of high-molecular chitosan with = 200 kDa in a salt or basic form, or acid-soluble high-molecular chitosan powder with = 200 kDa, or water-soluble low-molecular chitosan powder with = 38 kDa, wherein the iodine-containing vapour is formed by crystalline iodine, aqueous iodine solution or water-alcohol solution of iodine.
EFFECT: method simplifies the technique of producing iodine-containing chitosan derivatives in powder form, widens the range of modification media and iodine-containing preparations for eliminating iodine-deficient conditions and treating delicate tissue, and improves stability of the end product.
