FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: method includes detection of damaged section in extended anode bed (EAB) and further location of fault in the section, at that to the section end low-voltage current generator operating at frequency less than 100 Hz is connected, by means of inductance meter and sensor EAB location is determined in the ground, search of fault location is made by measuring transverse gradient of the earth-surface potential between measuring electrodes, at that the first electrode is placed over EAB while the second electrode is placed at distance of at least 7 m from the side opposite to the protected pipeline and perpendicular to direction of travel, moreover measurements are performed with a pitch of 1 m; when maximum signal is detected by the meter a control symbol is installed and further the generator is switched to the other end of the damaged EAB section and measurements are performed in backward direction, and EAB fault location is accepted as the midpoint between two control symbols installed at points where maximum signal values are detected.
EFFECT: improved accuracy of fault location in extended anode bed, which leads to reduced labour intensity at repair of damage.
