SUBSTANCE: use: to survey formation changes on the well bore. The invention essence means that the downhole device contains an emission source intended to emit the interacting signal, a detector to detect the echo-signal, and a screen to limit volume examined by the emission source and the detector, wherein the device contains a first part and a second part, wherein the second part is made with possibility of rotation around the longitudinal axis relatively to the first part during use, and the second part contains a screen, wherein the speed of rotation of the second part is regulated by the rotator such that it is proportional to the output signal of the detector. This invention also relates to the method of characteristics taking of the geologic formation surrounding the well bore using the downhole device according to this invention.
EFFECT: assurance of the possibility of studies of the geologic formation surrounding the well bores, and during exploration, production and state monitoring of ground water and deposit of mineral resources.
