FIELD: nuclear physics and technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for tablets of uranium dioxide fuel rods for high-ventilated predominantly thermionic converter reactor (TRP) built-in. A process for preparing a tablet involves milling of uranium dioxide sintered billets of uranium dioxide based batch preparation with the addition of crushed pieces atomized highly active uranium dioxide powder and binder, pressing and sintering the pellets. When this charge is formed from crushed raw blanks fractional composition in the range of 200 - 315 microns and a highly active uranium dioxide fine powder in an amount of 8 - 12% by weight.
EFFECT: invention provides pellets of uranium dioxide with a primary pore size of 20 - 60 microns when the total porosity of 10 - 20% to provide the optimum structure formation of uranium dioxide in the initial operation period of the fuel element.
