SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of shipbuilding, and more specifically - to ice towing basin for testing ship models and engineering structures, the question of determining the strength of ice in the ice towing basin. The method for determining the strength of the ice in the ice towing basin involves measuring the average salinity of the ice and the average temperature of the ice with respect to its thickness and the determination of strength properties of ice on the bend by the destruction of cantilever beams of ice afloat. Here in the preliminary towing ice basin simulated ice sheets having different average temperature, high salinity and structure are frozen, in which experiments is then carried out on determining the strength of ice by breaking cantilever beams of ice afloat with measuring the average salinity of the ice S and the average temperature t thereof by its thickness, which will yield information about the strength of ice σ as a function σ = f (S, t), and the structure of the ice for the selected towing basin. And prior to the model tests before each experiment with towed models average salinity of the ice and the temperature of the water ice layer are measured in ice towing basin which is introduced into the on-board computer. Then, in the process of testing of the towed models, conduct the experiment at a pace determined by the temperature of the ice surface immediately prior to the towed model at a distance of not less than eight thicknesses of ice towing basin in front of the towed model in a strip in width 1.1-1.2 a test pattern with a measuring thermal imager scans the surface of ice in said band, whose value is constantly recorded into a on-board computer, which is the basis of the data calculated average temperature of ice by the formula: where tsurf. - the temperature of the surface of the ice, tadj. - the temperature of the water ice layer. Using the obtained results of measuring the characteristics of ice and the calculation results of the computer and with the use of previously obtained relation σ = f (S, t), after computer processing, obtained during towing pattern information about the strength of the ice along the tow line.

EFFECT: technical result is to increase the accuracy and reliability of the results of the model experiment while increasing the efficiency of the ice fields to conduct these experiments in it that distinguishes them from the prototype.
