FIELD: atomic physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear reactor control and protection systems. A control rod drive mechanism (CRDM) comprises a lead screw, a motor attached on a thread with the lead screw for the linear movement of the lead screw in the input direction or back in the retrieval direction, a locking device connected to the lead screw and designed for (i) latching the connecting rod and (ii) unlatching the connecting rod, and a release mechanism designed for selective unlatching of the locking device from the connecting rod. The connecting rod can freely move in the input direction when unlatched.
EFFECT: faster operation and higher reliability of the control rod drive mechanism.
