FIELD: engines.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to control of engine restarting. A system for controlling start speed of a vehicle engine includes first battery electrically connected to engine starter when starting, and AC generator mechanically coupled to engine and having an inductor coil excitation circuit which is electrically damped by first battery when starting engine. Inductor coil excitation circuit when engine starts is electrically connected to a power source other than first battery. System also includes controller for varying strength of magnetic field generated by inductor coil by adjusting input of inductor coil excitation circuit.

EFFECT: improved engine restart.
