FIELD: engines and pumps.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and system for starting an internal combustion engine. Method and system for functioning of electric rotary device (ERD) functionally connected to internal combustion engine (ICE) are proposed. ERD operates as an engine in accordance with a first control strategy and as a generator in accordance with a second control strategy, different from first control strategy. Proposed system comprises engine control unit configured to control ERD operation in compliance with first and second control strategies. To start the ICE, electric and auxiliary start-up procedures are available by supplying electric power from the power supply to the ERD, which is coaxially installed on the ICE crankshaft. Auxiliary start-up includes supply of electric power to the ERD at use of the reverse stroke starter for rotation of the crankshaft. Manual start-up procedure is also available. Power supply source is charged by means of the ERD at operation of the internal combustion engine.

EFFECT: technical result is enabling control of generator-motor voltage at high rotation speeds.
