SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computing technology. Method for decoding an encoded representation of the current image to a plurality of video images comprises extracting, from the encoded representation of the current image buffer descriptions defining at least one list of reference images of the plurality of independently coded representations from the preceding images. Image identifier of a reference image is determined based on image identifier information retrieved from the buffer description for the reference image and a reference image preceding the reference image according to a list order in the buffer description. Determined picture identifier is used to update a decoded picture buffer that stores reference pictures to be used as decoding reference for the picture and/or any subsequent picture of the video stream.
EFFECT: technical result is to provide an effective alarm system and a reference image buffer management.
