SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of decoding an encoded presentation of a video stream image from a plurality of images, in which there is extracted a buffer description information, specifying at least one reference image, from a data structure, included into the encoded representation of the said image; there is determined, based on the buffer description information, the image identifier, which identifies a reference image; there is updated a buffer decoded images based on the image identifier, marking all reference images, present in the buffer of decoded images and not associated with the image identifier, determined, based on the buffer description information, as unused as reference ones; besides, at least one reference image is set by the buffer description data in an absolute and obvious manner due to the fact that the encoded representation of the said image contains in the said data structure the information about what reference image must be used as reference one during decoding regardless of the encoded presentation of previous images in a video stream.
EFFECT: efficient signalling of reference images.
