FIELD: construction.

SUBSTANCE: infrared (IR) heating elements are placed above upper surface and/or under lower surface of a pre-assembled vacuum insulated glass unit at a distance of distance of 2-10 inches. Distance between the heaters is 2-6 inches. Voltage supplied to plurality of IR heating elements is adjustable to change peak wavelength to preferably perform heating of solder glass, but not said insulated glass unit. When about half of lamp is in on state for heating seal material, about another half of lamp is in off state, so that about half of density of arrangement of lamps is used for heating.

EFFECT: high strength of edge sealing, reduction of damage of substrates.
