FIELD: technological processes; instrumentation.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to cutting tool with abrasion resistant coating containing base and a coating layer located on the base surface, in which the coating layer contains the first layer structure and second laminar structure. First layer structure has a structure in which two or more types of layers with different compositions periodically are laid, and average thickness of every layer makes 60-500 nm. Second layer structure has a structure in which two or more types of layers with different compositions periodically are laid, and average thickness of each layer is from 2 nm to less than 60 nm. Layers making the first layer structure, and layers making the second layer structure contain at least one element selected from a group consisting of metals, including at least one metal element selected from Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Al, Si, Sr, Y, Sn and Bi, and compounds containing at least one of said metal elements and at least one non-metal element selected from carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and boron.
EFFECT: higher wear resistance, increased service life.
