METHOD OF SOLIDIFYING TRITIUM-CONTAINING PETROLEUM OIL Russian patent published in 2016 - IPC G21F9/16 

FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of hardening tritium containing petroleum oil, from which it is impossible to extract radioactive substances by filtration. Method comprises connection of oil with hardener (paraffin). Mixture of tritium-containing oil and solid paraffin is prepared with oil content not exceeding 30 wt%, mixture is heated to temperature of 65-70 °C, and held until paraffin coming in liquid state and dissolving oil in it, then produced mixture is cooled.

EFFECT: avoiding need for storage of liquid radioactive wastes at places of their formation and their transportation for processing and/or disposal, improving radiation safety of production, possibility of obtaining mixture, which is solid, hydrophobic, resistant to temperature fluctuations, is not destroyed under effect of radiation from tritium contained therein, does not show tendency to stratification and oil separation during storage, as well as avoiding formation of tritium water.
