METHOD AND DEVICE FOR MAKING THIXOBILLETS Russian patent published in 2016 - IPC B22D1/00 B22D27/09 

FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: device comprises crucible 6, in bottom of which there are holes, thin-walled container 1, sleeve 3 with attached inclined spiral chutes 2. Sleeve is arranged in container, is rigidly connected to molds and is made with possibility of back-and-forth axial movement. In crucible 6 weighted melt portion is fed, superheated above Liquidus temperature. Simultaneously with supply of melt through cavity of sleeve 3 liquid or gaseous medium is forced, which provides maintenance of uniform temperature along section of workpiece during cooling. Through holes 7 in bottom of hearth melt in form of jets is transmitted to working surface of the water-cooled chutes 2, which provide shear for melt therein and filling of thin-wall container 1. Chutes are removed from container and at that mixing of suspension flows is conducted in homogeneous temperature field. After removal of chutes container is closed with heat-insulating cover, suspension is cooled in container to form thixobillet.

EFFECT: making thixobillets with fine-grain non-dendrite microstructure with weight of up to 30-40 kg from aluminium alloys.
