FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metal forming and can be used in production of pistons of internal combustion engines (ICE) from aluminium alloys with reinforcing inserts by methods of solid-liquid moulding. Proposed method comprises fabrication of thixo-moulding, its reduction to solid-liquid state, installation of die tool into shaping cavity and subsequent stamping of article to make housing and piston skirt. Thixo-moulding fabrication is carried out in a container in the form of a thin-walled metal barrel with a metal ring forming its bottom and a ceramic insert in the lower part, and with arranged on ledges of metal ring along its inner surface by aluminized Ni-resist ring, in which mixed aluminium melt is poured, closing after filling its upper end with a ceramic insert and creating conditions for formation of homogeneous globular microstructure of thixo-moulding material, after which thixo-moulding is cooled and removed from container for subsequent stamping of article.

EFFECT: invention allows improving operating characteristics of the product as a whole and strengthening the groove zones for the first compression piston ring.
