FIELD: metal processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metal forming and may be used to optimise technological and structural parameters of gear milling. Method is characterised by that using hobbing machine cut gear worm cutter, its teeth wear is measured during period of cutting wheel and dependence of wear of shear of layers, and at working cutting gear teeth wear hob cutter is determined as per specified size of shear layers from relationship: where h1 - wear of tooth in a single cutting operation; a av - average thickness of sheared layer equal to a in is given maximum thickness of sheared layer at inlet into cutting zone, a out is given maximum thickness of sheared layer at cutting zone; l is given length of sheared layer; λ - form factor of sheared layer equal to V - cutting speed.
EFFECT: optimisation of technological and structural parameters of gear milling.
