FIELD: mechanisms.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mechanical tests of materials for strength and stability, in particular, to testing of samples of organic glass under conditions of pure shift. Round sample is made with diameter D with concentric through hole diameter d of which is selected in accordance with expression d ≤ 10 D. Sample holder used is steel element of cylindrical shape with diameter equal to diameter of through hole, and element height is greater than thickness of sheet material under test. Steel element is introduced into through hole of sample. To protruding end surfaces element is applied axial compressive force and upon visual detecting of moment of loss of stability of sample or moment of destruction of sample, diameter C of deformed element is measured. Measurement results are used to calculate maximum tangential stress.
EFFECT: technical result is possibility to create conditions of pure shift on flat samples from organic glass.
