FIELD: ceramic industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ceramic composite materials consisting of aluminium oxide as a ceramic matrix and dispersed therein zirconium oxide, and can be used in medical industry for making artificial prostheses, for example ortheses and endoprosthesis, or for making implants of hip or knee joints. Composite material as a first phase contains at least 65 vol% aluminium oxide and as a second phase 10 to 35 vol% zirconium oxide, wherein zirconium oxide, in terms of total content of zirconium oxide, from 80 to 99 %, is in form of a tetragonal phase, and total content of chemical stabilisers for stabilisation of tetragonal phase of zirconium oxide is less than 0.2 mol%.
EFFECT: technical result of invention is high strength and crack resistance of articles from composite material.
