FIELD: biochemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention describes a spectrophotometric method of determining total protein in biological fluids. Method involves mixing of a biological fluid sample with a solution of reagent containing the following components: pyrogallol bromine red, sodium molybdate, sodium oxalate, amber acid and water. Concentration of components in the solution of reagent (MP): pyrogallol bromine red - (1.5-4.0)×10-3; sodium molybdate - (0.5-1.5)×10-3; sodium oxalate - 0.01-0.03; amber acid - 0.4-0.7; water - the rest. One mixes a biological fluid sample and reagent solution in ratio 1:(5-200), respectively, and measures optical density of the sample at wave length within the range of 580-620 nm relative to an idle sample, and then determines the protein concentration by the calibration curve method or by one reference method.

EFFECT: invention provides for minimisation of error in determining total protein in biological fluids and can be used in laboratory practice for determining the content of protein in urine, cerebrospinal fluid, spinal fluid, serum, blood plasma.
