SUBSTANCE: invention relates to video encoding/decoding. Disclosed is a method of encoding images for encoding a target image, which includes a brightness component and a colour difference component. Method includes a step of obtaining a reference image, selecting bidirectional prediction or unidirectional prediction based on prediction mode, which is designated directly or indirectly. Further according to method, if size of block designated as a unit of interpolation is less than or equal to a preset first threshold value, limiting size of block, and if bidirectional prediction is selected, bidirectional prediction is changed to unidirectional prediction.

EFFECT: reduction of frequency band accessing memory during encoding of images by limiting block size.
