FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to selective oxidation of sulphur-containing compounds, particularly hydrogen sulphide. Invention relates to a fixed catalyst bed for selective oxidation of hydrogen sulphide with oxygen, wherein said composite catalyst layer comprises a first catalyst layer and a second catalyst layer, where the first catalyst layer comprises first catalyst particles which contain a first support material containing silica and a first metal oxide containing Fe2O3 and a second catalyst layer comprising second catalyst particles which contain a second support material containing silica and a second oxide metal containing Fe2O3, where said particles of first catalyst have higher loading of Fe2O3 with respect to total weight of first catalyst particles than loading Fe2O3 for said particles of second catalyst in terms of total weight of particles of second catalyst, wherein said Fe2O3 charge for second catalyst particles is less than 3 % based on the total weight of said second catalyst particles, and said loading Fe2O3 particles of the first catalyst is in range of 5–10 % based on the total weight of the particles of the first catalyst, and wherein the volume of the first catalyst layer is 15–50 vol. % of the total volume of the catalyst layer, and volume of layer of second catalyst is 50–85 vol. % of total volume of catalyst layer. Invention also relates to a method and apparatus for selective oxidation of hydrogen sulphide.
EFFECT: technical result of the invention is higher output and selectivity without using a lower volumetric rate.
