FIELD: GAS TREATMENT. SUBSTANCE: gas containing hydrogen sulfide below 5 vol % is brought in contact with O2-containing gas in amount ensuring O2:H2S molar ratio from 0.5 to 3 in presence of catalyst containing, as active phase, one or several oxides and/or salts of transition metals from the group including Ni, Co, Fe, Cu, Ag, Mn, Mo, Cr, W, and V applied on a carrier. Contact is carried out at 50 to 180 C for 0.5 to 20 s., Sulfur formed from hydrogen sulfide under these conditions deposits onto catalyst, which, when saturated, is regenerated at 200-500 C by blowing through with inert gas. Catalyst is then cooled to 60-180 C and returned into contact stage. EFFECT: enabled carrying out process with no control of oxygen intake in the oxidation stage. 12 cl, 1 dwg
