FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, namely to DC electric arc furnaces. Furnace includes melting chamber housing with a working door, formed by metal shell and lining of layers of refractory non-electro-conductive material, drain chute, roof and crown electrode located along the axis of the melting chamber, bottom electrodes that are displaced relative to axis of the melting chamber, disk solenoid coils with a control unit, heat-sensitive elements in the nature of thermocouple junctions which are installed with possibility of measuring the temperature on the surface layer of lining of the housing of the melting chamber and under the layer of coating lining on the ring end face of the melting chamber, and are located at a distance of not more than 0.5 m from each other, control unit of disk solenoid coils, number of inputs of which is equal to the number of heat-sensitive elements connected to the appropriate outputs of the heat-sensitive elements, while the number of outputs equals to that of disk solenoid coils connected to outputs of the said unit, wherein the control unit of disk solenoid coils is made integral with low-voltage DC source in the form of the said programmed micro-controller. Furnace is equipped with a coolant source with a pipeline connected thereto by its end, while its other end is connected to the disk solenoid coils that are being continuously cooled, and disk solenoid coils are installed inside the housing of the melting chamber, are located in pairs and diametrically opposed between the layers of lining and can be connected to a DC source, wherein the axis passing through the centers of said coils are located at the same height level in the horizontal plane above the maximum level of molten metal and intersect in the center of the melting chamber.
EFFECT: invention provides higher efficiency at 10÷15 % and efficiency increased two times due to increased service life of the lining layer and allows to reduce specific power consumption of not less than 5-6 % and improves environmental friendliness of the space around the electric arc furnace.
